What’s The Difference Between Linux Hosting And Microsoft Hosting?

I’m starting a website with 1&1 and their hosting plans have either Linux hosting or Microsoft hosting. Does it matter what OS I’m using or is this how the server runs? What are the differences?

I’m am thinking of going with this website for Web Hosting my business – www.fatcow.com. I would love to hear from people who have used this, especially if you have an online shop in your site.

1 They may blow the competition away with their wind, but that “free” domain name is costing about US$16/year (which is $6/year more than it should) over a $4.25/month GoDaddy account. Since the hype is false …

(I can tell you that GoDaddy is an excellent host. I’ve been with them for years.)

2 Fatcow, Powweb and Startlogic are the same company under different names. Since there were many bad reviews about powweb and startlogic on the web during these years their owners have decided to have a new presence on the web with a new brand (fatcow).

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BH web hosting which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

Uploading and Using a photography website template?
recently downloaded a template for a photography site, and it seems quite complicated. I know I need hosting, (I already have a domain name), and I was thinking of getting the hosting from BH hosting. Would the most basic plan be enough? I don’t know anything about code, so how to I add pictures to it and how do I get it in my domain? Mostly, I don’t know how to get the template online. There are a lot of files in the folder that came with the template, and they are all file types that open in adobe flash and dreamweaver and stuff. I have no idea what to do. Is there some sort of tutorial, or can someone here help me?

2 I cant comment on quality of service for BH Hosting (I never heard of them), but if you are going to be uploading a lot of high quality photos, 150 MB probably wont be enough space. There are a lot of large hosting companies that offer gigs of space for under $8/month.

As far as code goes, you need to ftp the files onto the web server. Once you obtain a hosting account, you will receive details on how to ftp into your account. There are may free FTP clients. (Filezilla is a good one)

3 I would look at a few unlimited hosting packages as images might require alot of bandwidth if not optimized – www.hosting-picks is a good place to start. Once hosting has been decided and domain transferred you can simply upload the files to the domains folder on the server

Name some video uploading/hosting sites that WON’T take videos down due to copyright BS?
I’m extremely aggravated with YouTube since after spending days making a video, when I uploaded it just now they blocked it from being seen because of a 30 second audio clip (which is integral to the vid so I can’t take it out) that some corporation claims copyright on.

Anyway, can anyone list some websites that I could upload the video to where they would NOT take it down or block it because of copyright nonsense? I worked way too hard on this thing just to trash it because Youtube won’t let me upload it.

I’d also like the site to be free and to be good quality (no pixelation and such after upload). Thanks!
